With these dry conditions fire safety is on everyone’s mind.  Here in Durango Colorado and the surrounding areas we are in a terrible drought and it  is time to evaluate the fire safety at your home and in your neighborhood.  Below is a diagram explaining some of the tools you can use to protect your home.

The most important tool to use in keeping your house safe is the 3 zone rule.  Fire fighters will look for “defensible space” when they are in your area fighting a fire.  The 3 zone rules refers to varying degrees of brush thinning around your property.  Closest to your house you will want things to be very clear, and cascading out about 100′ from your immediately property.
